Northern Saw-whet Owl Release Oct 6 2012

Received a call at 5pm from Chris
 (Volunteer at theToronto Wildlife Centre)
saying she had a owl release and would l like
to join her.  I said where and when.
It was a beautiful Northern Saw-whet Owl who took a wrong turn
during migration.

Chris opened the box and away the owl flew

You can see his wings up in the air in the left corner.

The owl landed on a branch and we wished him well and left.
Look at those beautiful eyes.  A Saw whet Owl is the size of a box can.

Toronto Wildlife Centre thank you for taking caring for this Saw-whet Owl
Chris M. thank you for allowing me the honour of seeing the owl released.

  1. Thank you Ann,
for taking the beautiful pictures alike always.
    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Guildwood Village

  2. Gisela:

    Happy thanksgiving to you also.

  3. Hi there. Just reading your great posting regarding the Northern Saw-Whet Owl. I was very interested in seeing your pictures of the release of the Saw-Whet Owl in Toronto a couple of weeks ago. Good to see that people are working hard to help save such beautiful birds! I also live in Toronto, and this past Friday, my wife and I came upon an adult Saw-Whet Owl out in one of Toronto's northern parks. This was the first time as birders that we had ever seen a Saw-Whet Owl. Fortunately, we had our camera with us and got some good pictures and video. We have posted them for anyone interested at:
