The fox on Sylvan Ave - Jan 31, 2011

This guy is very fast and definately doesn't like people. My dog Rory tells me when he is nearby - baying as only a beagle can. He is a lovely fox. Will try to get his face one time.

Saw a turkey on the berm and had to look to see if it was Steve but no it was a real turkey. Very nice to see the 2 turkeys going up the berm and then fly at the top.

Carol and i saw the porcupine in the tree. He was one big boy.

Carol and I went for a drive to Ravenshoe and Holland Marsh. Very few birds but some wonderful scenery with ice on the branches.

Barred owl - 2 in one day + first flight shots Jan 25, 2011

Janice and I took off up towards Lindsay and area. Weather was not great but we survived and totally enjoyed the day. Thanks to Dan who gave us some tips on where to go. This beautiful Barred Owl was my second of the day. I was thrilled to see him. He was on a back road and there was no place to stop. I told Janice to let me out. I got out of the car and she continued on (torn because she wanted to see him also) I waved bye bye and enjoyed watching the owl. Eventually Janice joined me but he was quick to leave to the back of the woodlot. What a thrill and what a friend to let me have the honour.

Pileated Woodpeck and Ravens Jan 25, 2011

Janice and I continued to be amazed by the birds we were seeing. There is something so beautiful about a pileated woodpecker. The gentleman who allowed us to take photos put pigs fat on the tree and man did the woodpeckers love it.

Rusty Blackbirds and Northern Shrike Jan 25 2011

Another wonderful outing with Janice with some excellent birds. Enjoy this Northern Shrike which totally ignored us.


This was one wonderful surprise bird. The Rusty Blackbird is on the threat ed list of birds.

Grey Screech Owl and Snow blowing on lake Jan 23 2011

I love looking at a Eastern Screech Owl. The side shot is my favourite of the day.

On my way to work downtown I stopped at Leslie spit edge and enjoyed the sight of the snow blowing over the lake. Cold cold day.
