Red Tailed Hawk - Bird in Flight course March 7, 2010

My favourite hawk is the red tailed hawk. The Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is a bird of prey, one of three species colloquially known in the United States as the "chickenhawk," though it rarely preys on chickens. It breeds throughout most of North America, from western Alaska and northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies, and is one of the most common buteos in North America.

This beauty is 13 years old and gave us quite the show. The Canadian Raptor Conservacy is putting a bid forward that the Canadian Bird will be the Red Tailed Hawk. For more inforamtion go to their website at www.canadianraptorconservancy.com/ then go to http://www.canadianraptorconservancy.com/index.php?page=official-bird-of-canada and click here to vote
