Fox on the hunt - Success May 22 , 2009
Early this morning while having my coffee I noticed the fox coming down the road. He stopped outside my house and sat on the lawn. He was watching a squirrel. He sat there for a good 5 minutes. I grabbed my camera and started to take some photos. He is looking really skinny and his molt is awful. But he can move really fast when he see the breakfast he wants. He took off got his meal and then wandered down the road. I still have no idea where is den is but it has to be close.

Rose Breasted Grosbecks, Red Bellied Woodpeckers and Red Headed Woodpeckers May 18, 2009
A nice afternoon was spent with Jen while watching some great birds and taking some photos. Too many highlights to talk about but the red headed woodpeckers and red bellies and their wonderful calls will stay in my mind for a long time.
Also was seeing a lovely juvenile rose breasted grosbeck. I have never seen a young one before.
A great day with a great friend.

Hummingbirds becoming territorial May 17, 2009
Today I noticed a behaviour change in my male hummingbirds. I have feeders at both the front and the back of the house. In both areas the male is chasing off other hummingbirds. It was recommended that I put feeders at different levels in order to avoid this behavior but the male dominant hummingbird won't allow any other nearby. Also the males are now sitting on top of the feeders, on the tree nearby, bell lines guarding the feeder. Any sign of a hummingbird coming near it off it goes to chase it away. The female is allowed to come occasionally. Here is a shot of the male sitting on top of the feeder by my computer window. I was able to sit outside and take this photo as he is now on the feeder all the time.
