Northern Flicker at nesting hole July 2017
Northern Flicker aka white butt. This lovely pair is nesting on a safe back road. They feed the babies on a regular schedule and if you sit quietly in your car you get to enjoy all the sounds.
Next group of shots are of preening and sunning. The crest is up and I have never taken a photo of it before.
Cleaning beak
Check the eye
If you look closely you will see a baby beak inside
Love the light
After every feeding they take the poop out of the nest .
