Muskrat Family - Water all gone - Walking on Land August 5, 2009

Went to see how the beaver and muskrats were doing. The marsh was so short on water it was hard to believe. At the beaver dam there was no water just a little trickle of water. The dam was totally above water. The muskrats were running around on land.

Ruby Throated Hummingbirds & Red Headed Woodpeckers babyaugust 6, 2009

I have 4 females and 2 males at the feeders right now. All are fighting for control of the feeders. As well the hornets and wasps want their share of the nectar. Thank goodness the hummingbirds are winning. I have 3 feeders at my back window as well as a jar of nectar to keep the hornets at bay and 2 feeders at the front window and they are all busy.

Baby Red Headed Woodpeckers: First time ever seeing one.

My moms new Boston Terrier Buddy

Here are a couple of shots of the cutie.

Green Herons

Went for a drive and saw some beautiful juvenile green herons. The lighting was terrible but oh the herons were fantastic. They were talking to one another and flying around the area. Fantastic. If only the sun wasn't shining right in my eyes.

Green Heron, Grosbeak, Bunting, Wood Ducks and more July 27, 2009

Green Heron

Wood Duck - Adult plus babies

Indigo bunting (long ways away)

Some type of dragon fly

some type of butterfly

1 st year Rose Breasted Grosbeak (notice the orange coloured chest)

Went for a drive with Walter and the weather was sunny, rainy, very cold and then hot. WEIRD. We saw many different birds from a stunning green heron (lifer for Walter) to great blue herons, wood ducks, 3-4 indigo buntings, a 1st year rose breasted grosbeak, butterflies and more. Thanks Walter for putting up with grumpy old me as I am still not feeling too good.

Turkey Vulture on a Haystack & EAstern Kingbird feeding her young July 25, 2009

Decided to wander this morning. On Lakeridge Road saw nothing - no birds no sign of anything but when I got to the haystacks I saw this black bird on top. Grabbed my binoculars and realized it was a turkey vulture sitting like a hen. WEIRD. Went to the marsh and saw a lonely wood duck, eastern kingbird feeding her babies and a great blue heron being chased by the eastern kingbird. Called it a day - a good day.
