Male Ruby Throated Hummingbirds in front yard August 25, 2010

My front yard continues to be very busy Orioles (2), Red Breasted Nuthatches (whole family)Cardinals and babies (counted 8 tonight), Baltimore hatches, Downy Woodpeckers (2), sparrows and goldfinches by the 20 and of course my favourite little hummingbirds (6-8). Lots of males chasing off the females. All 4 feeders were busy.


The male hummingbirds were going from tree to tree, feeder to feeder and I just stood there watching. It was raining and the sky was dark but they are just so pretty to watch.

My visit with Jen was filled with lots of birding, walking, driving and seeing some amazing country. Thanks Jeff for taking us on your boat around the lake for 4 hours, thanks Jen for an amazing time. The eagles will always be a wonderful memory of our weekend.

Jen and I travelled many miles over the 2 days and even stopped to watch the cow nursing the calfs.

A mixture of birds from the trip. The osprey flying as taken the first night on the lake. Love the golden colour to it.

On the lake there was a family of Forester Terns - difference between it an Caspian and Common was the sound and also notice the grey silvery wings.

Hummingbirds , Warblers and more august 21, 2010

Jen and i went to the Hummingbird festival at Wye Marsh. The paths were full of jewel weeds and hummingbirds flitting in and out.
